This site is divided into 15 x sections, thus:

  1. How the Tree works:
    Simple, step-by-step instructions that tell you how to navigate your way around the archive;

  2. Omissions and Corrections:
    What to do if you find an error or something missing; (write to the Keeper!)

  3. Family Relationships:
    An explanation of the complexities of family relationships – eg. How to tell if someone is your second cousin, or 3rd cousin once removed.

  4. Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs):
    What we think you might be asking about;

  5. Search for Someone:
    This is your main entry point to the site. Everything starts with your search on this part of the site – and it is your main way of finding out who – and what – is / is not on the archive.

  6. Surname Index:
    An alphabetical list of every name on the site.

  7. World Map:
    Find out where Woollcombes are – and were – in the world. (Historic records do not often include this information – but we are looking, and finding, more every day. You’ll be surprised how far spread we are!)

  8. Introduction:
    This page! Introducing the different sections of the archive

  9. Management:
    Explaining how the site is managed – who is to blame for the mistakes; who to congratulate for the successes

  10. Occupations:
    This part of the site lists people by their profession so we can see what we’re all up to professionally; there have been many lawyers, military / government servants and clergymen in our family so they have separate categories; the rest of us are “other”

  11. Gallery:
    We aim to create an album of family photographs each year. The 2019 Album will be ready next Christmas – and we plan to make a start on the 2020 one. Contributions, please!

  12. Family News:
    Before news items go in the album, they appear here – on family news. If there’s a lot going on with your family, the keeper can organise an access code for you that allows you to mount your own family news. Write to the keeper if you are interested in taking advantage of this offer.

  13. Wacky Woollcombe Characters:
    There have been many colourful eccentrics in our family history – and we intend to identify them on this page of the archive. Please nominate Woollcombes – living or dead – who you feel qualify for this ultimate accolade!

  14. Contact Us:
    Enquiries: The address of the current keeper of the site, David Woollcombe;

  15. Contact Us:
    Donations: This site doesn’t cost very much to run, but – just in case any family members want to expand it, add new functionalities, or hire a researcher / professional archivist, we’re going to open a special Bank A/c to receive donations to do specific work for the Family Archive. This will be set up in time for the reunion in August 2020;
