James Burney

Captain in the Royal Navy. Entered navy 6 January 1807. In 1814 appointed to the L'Aigle 36, Captain Sir John Louis. From the "Royal Naval Biography" 1838 James Burney Commander A son of the late Dr Burney of Gosport, who has the credit of having educated more naval and military officers during the French wars than any other teacher in the kingdom. James Burney made an officer by the Board of Admiralty on their visit to Portsmouth in the company of allied monarchs in the summer of 1814. Appointed to the Preventative Service in the Island of Sheppy in Dec. 1827?, Wasp sloop 19-12-1833, December 1834 to sloop Arachne in West Indies. Married Weymouth 24-1-1822 to Mary only daughter of P. Burnett.
