Charles Louis

Major General Sir Charles Louis, 4th Baronet, 3rd but eldest surviving son of Admiral Sir John Louis, 2nd Baronet. He was baptised at St. Mary Church, Torquay, 1st April 1820. He entered the Royal Marine Light Infantry as 2nd Lieutenant 21st Novemebr 1837, was promoted Lieutenant 11th May 1841, Captain 23rd May 1851, Lieutenant-Colonel 18th March 1862, Colonel 10th November 1866 and Colonel Commandant Plymouth Division 1st April 1870. He was promoted Major General 18th September 1873. He succeeded his nephew Lieutenant Colonel Sir John Louis, as 4th Baronet on the 17th November 1893. He died at Monte Carlo and was succeeded by his son Sir Charles Louis as 5th Baronet. After his second marriage he lived mostly in Monaco, at the Villa Ita, where he died. He was buried at the Roman Catholic Churchyard, having during the latter years of his life gone over to the Roman Catholic faith.
