HENRY WOOLLCOMBE - 2nd surviving son William Woollcombe of Pitton (page 167)

Baptised at Yealmpton March 6 1637. He married at Ashbury September 14, 1685 Elizabeth widow of Richard Stuckey Esq. and sister and heiress of Henry Walter of Ashbury, in theCounty of Devon, and through her acquired the estates of Ashbury, which on his dying without issue in 1692, devolved on his nephew John Woollcombe of Pitton. (Page 279).

His wife having been born in 1621, was nearly 16 years older than himself, and as she was 63 year of age at the time of the marriage there was no prospect of her having children, and so the marriage can only have taken place with the object of securing the property to Henry Woollcombe' s family.

Henry Woollcombe and Elizabeth Stuckey (Nee Walter) were first cousins. The fact that the two families were in touch with each other is shown by the fact that Elizabeth Stuckey and her mother Marcella Walter [nee Skinner] witnessed the will of William Woollcombe of Pitton, their respective first cousin and nephew on March 15, 1658.

The marriage settlement was dated August 30, 1685.
